About the England Shotokan Karate Union
Welcome to the England Shotokan Karate Union (ESKU). We are a group of Traditional Shotokan Karate Practitioners, rooted firmly in the principles of budo. Our approach goes beyond physical training, fostering strong character, discipline, respect in this lifelong study of self perfection.
The formation of the ESKU has been shaped by instructors from a wide range of backgrounds and organisations. Their collective knowledge and experience have played a key role in the structure, standards and ethos of the group.
With over 100 years of combined teaching expertise, we aim to provide an authentic and realistic approach to Shotokan Karate, priding ourselves in high quality, professional teaching and coaching, focusing on correct technique, understading and the application of karate in both the traditional and practial setting.
Our training is centered around the three Ks of Karate: Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring), delivered in a structured, but supportive and fun environment. Overseen by our Chief Instructor, Sensei John Euden, 7th Dan, we have a team of dedicated Shotokan instructors who aim to give the best possible teaching experience to any and all who enter our dojos.
